The best camera is the one that’s with you, or so they say. I decided to put the phrase to the test by relying on my iPhone and Instagram for snapping photos in New York City.
When going overseas there are gadgets that I simply can’t leave behind, namely… my MacBook Pro and my DSLR camera.
My camera goes everywhere with me, no sense on missing a great shot.
The laptop’s always there for editing images and surfing online back at the hotel.
On this trip I figured I’d leave the laptop behind, I have an iPad and a smart phone for my internet fix.
Although I took the DSLR, I left it at the hotel often, except for planned photography days.
Instead… I forced myself to use the iPhone as my go to camera for candid moments, that’s the camera that I always have with me.
Not only was I carrying a lighter load but also more able to take spontaneous streets shots.
People notice when you’re swinging a DSLR around, but… tend to act more naturally when it’s a mobile phone.
Needless to say… I’m happy I took to the challenge and am satisfied with what you can mange with a smart phone and a bundle of image apps.
Here are some of my favourite moments captured on my iPhone and published in my NYC Instagram diary:
