Canon just released their Video Camera X Series Look, a Picture Style for DSLR video shooters. It’s designed to give increased dynamic range necessary for post processing. Instead of crushing blacks you get a flatter look.
Many DSLR video types had found Picture Style workarounds long before Canon made their own. I tend to use Technicolor’s Cinestyle Picture Style which offers a pretty high dynamic range, offering plenty of legroom in editing.
Here you can see both Picture Styles side by side.
I included the RGB Parade for good measure.
